The differential assembly is held in the aluminum RDM housing by an interference fit with the side bearing shims. The RDM housing must be spread slightly in order to remove or install the differential assembly. DT-49909 is used with previously Essential J-45222 Axle Housing Spreader and a dial indicator to spread the RDM housing. DT-49909 adapters are attached to the RDM opening. The attachment bolts retain the adapters to the housing, but do not lock them in place, allowing the housing to spread. J-45222 is attached to DT-49909, and used to spread the RDM to the dimension specified in published service information.
