DT-50937 is used to protect the transfer case Intermediate Drive Shaft (IDS) seal from the splines on the IDS during shaft removal or installation. Previously Essential J-44394-A is too large in diameter and the sides of the tool when installed overlap. This overlap may cause over-stretching of the seal and potential seal lip damage. Failure to use a protector may damage the seal causing a transfer case fluid leak at right half shaft location.
